Meeting Schedule
Our next General Meeting for 2010 is May 13th, 7:30 PM at the North Shoreview Community Church, 120 Lindbergh Street.
Mark your calendars for a special presentation by Jon Mosby. Jon has been involved in volunteer non-profits for over 35 years, and is currently involved with three emergency radio groups.
He got his start in Disaster Preparedness here in San Mat eo as a NEST (CERT spelled differently) Instructor and as Executive Director and Instructor of CARD of SMC (Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters of San Mateo County). He will be happy to be answer concerns or questions during or anytime after the presentation on a wide range of Emergency Preparedness Topics.
This is a presentation you should not miss, and don't forget to tell or better yet bring a friend or neighbor. Your support is necessary for the neighborhood association to continue to represent and support our community.
Contact FEMA
Many neighborhoods recently received letters from the city of San Mateo advising us our "grandfathered" status re. flood insurance was going to be revised, resulting in much higher rates for all.
We've contacted Congresswoman Jackie Speier, whose office is working with the city and is also questioning FEMA as to why our status is changing when we were promised otherwise back in 2001. We are also in the midst of contacting Senators Feinstein and Boxer about the situation. And we are contacting our state representative, Leland Yee, to request he pursue state funds available for projects that, when complete, will remove us from FEMA's flood map.
It would be very helpful and persuasive if you would send letters to your elected officials informing them of your displeasure with this situation. To make it easy to send the letters, these template letters have been drafted for your use.
You are encouraged to make these letters your own, edit them to reflect your situation, and send them to our elected officials ASAP. In fact, it is more helpful if you include facts about your own situation.
