Meeting Schedule

Our scheduled program about earthquake safety in the home and workplace this month has been postponed in light of recent events in Japan.

You can help, donate at redcross.org or the charity of your choice. We hope to see you all at our next scheduled general meeting in May.

Contact FEMA

Many neighborhoods recently received letters from the city of San Mateo advising us our "grandfathered" status re. flood insurance was going to be revised, resulting in much higher rates for all.

We've contacted Congresswoman Jackie Speier, whose office is working with the city and is also questioning FEMA as to why our status is changing when we were promised otherwise back in 2001. We are also in the midst of contacting Senators Feinstein and Boxer about the situation. And we are contacting our state representative, Leland Yee, to request he pursue state funds available for projects that, when complete, will remove us from FEMA's flood map.

It would be very helpful and persuasive if you would send letters to your elected officials informing them of your displeasure with this situation. To make it easy to send the letters, these template letters have been drafted for your use.

You are encouraged to make these letters your own, edit them to reflect your situation, and send them to our elected officials ASAP. In fact, it is more helpful if you include facts about your own situation.
